A BIG, BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who supported the evening with Pat Falvey last Wednesday in any way. It was a great success with over a hundred people there. You will be delighted to know that the evening raised €1302 (and more to come!) which is being divided between The Mothers’ Union Relief Fund, Pat Falvey’s charity ‘Be Able’ and our parish funds. Particular thanks go to Clare Poole for initiating the evening and making it happen as well as to all the unseen helpers without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.

The Senior Youth Club met recently in the church hall for a night of mad games, table tennis, pizzas and chat. We spoke about taking time out of our busy lives to be still and quiet, turn off Facebook, the TV, xbox, mobile phone… (whatever it takes !!!!) and just spend a little time in prayer with God. We also discussed how God will support us through tough times such as exam pressure etc. With that in mind we would like to wish all of our young people facing exams at school or college the VERY best of luck and encourage the rest of the congregation to keep them in their prayers. Thanks a million to the Leaders James Fleury and Ross Bateman who helped on the night.

This has been an unbelievable year for the 5 girls from our church connected with our local community soccer team Carrigaline United….Grace Bateman, Jenny Byrne, Zoe Newenham, Laura Coughlan and Shannon Bateman. Their team won the Final of the U-14 Girls Evening Echo Cup held at Turners Cross, beating Ballincollig by one goal to nil in a very exciting match. (A very special night to remember… a convoy of cars returned to Carrigaline with the cup and the victorious girls). They won the u-14 League and will be receiving their medals at a special awards ceremony in the Rochestown Park Hotel next week. They also reached the final of the U-16 girls Cup losing to a very strong Wilton team. Great credit is due to the girl’s coaches -Jack, Rita, Niamh and Joe who give up so much of their time. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED! For more details contact Peter on 0863453361 or James on 0861736965 or check out carrigalineunion.org and cdyc.ie.

Monkstown Chamber Choir. Roger Ellis writes Our trip to West Cork on the weekend of 17th/18th April was a resounding success. The sun shone from beginning to end, and some parishioners from Monkstown joined us on the ferry out to Sherkin Island and later at mass in St Mona’s church. The residents made us all feel so welcome and surprised us with a slap-up afternoon tea in the church! That evening we treated ourselves to an Indian meal in Hacketts Bar, Schull and later still a good old sing-song in the Bunratty Inn. On Sunday morning, we drove to Altar Church, Toormore and met Rev Eithne Lynch and her congregation. After a small warm-up, we sung a full responsorial Service of Morning Prayer, with Eithne leading the responses beautifully. As the sun was still shining, we were reluctant to leave the beautiful West Cork coastline so some of us spent the afternoon on Barleycove beach, and a few of our very younger supporters even ventured in to the sea! As well as continuing to sing at Evensong, our next venture is to sing at an art exhibition in Ballinadee Church of Ireland, as part of Kinsale Arts Week on the evening of 17th July. We have vacancies for a tenor & a bass if anyone would like to join us.

Exhibition of Paintings by Joan Nicholson takes place from 14th April-16th May in the Mad Fish Restaurant at Cronin’s Pub, Crosshaven. All proceeds from the sale of paintings are being donated to the Irish Heart Foundation.
