Parish Notices Sunday 11th October 2015

The Rector writes  ‘Welcome to our United Harvest Services; whether it is morning time and you are reading this at the Eucharist Service in St Mary’s where we are welcome the Revd Cliff Jeffers as our preacher or whether it is evening time and you are sitting in St John’s at the Choral Evensong where we will listen to The O’Morchoe speak to us, you are welcome. In both of our services today, we give thanks for all the wonder and beauty of our world so please enjoy the smells and sights of God’s bounty all around you. The collections today will be given to Cork Simon Community who are appealing for help in maintaining their Soup Run. The Select Vestry felt that as we had been so generous to Bishops’ Appeal (1,945 euro sent to them just last week) that we should use our Harvest collection this year to help out locally.

As always, the fruit, vegetables and dried goods will go to Carrigaline Senior Citizens and to Monkstown Vincent de Paul. Thank you as always for your wonderful generosity’

Some of the Gravestones behind St Mary’s Church  have been deemed unstable by our Health & Safety team and are marked with red and white Hazard Tape while the County Council address the problem. Please do not let your children play near these gravestones. Thank you.

At this evening’s Harvest Festival Choral Evensong in St John’s Church, Monkstown Chamber Choir will sing “For the beauty of the earth” as the anthem. The beautiful and familiar words were written by Folliott S Pierpoint (1835 – 1917) and Philip Stopford composed this new setting in 2003 during his tenure as Director of Music at St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast.  This is a privileged opportunity for us all to appreciate some of the meaningful texts which form part of our Anglican hymn tradition – but through a modern composition.
