Parish Notices Sunday 14th April 2013
The Rector writes ‘Tonight at our Evensong in Monkstown, the incoming Select Vestry will be included in our prayers and commissioned for their work on the parish’s behalf over the next year. I am very grateful to each person in this community who gives voluntarily of their time, whether it is in the area of music, welcoming, children’s work, flowers, distribution of Linksheets, bellringing, cleaning the churches, fundraising …. the list goes on and on. Your involvement is what makes the difference and newcomers pick up on this immediately. Our Gospel today speaks of how Jesus told Peter to ’feed his sheep’ – Jesus asks this of all of us. We whom the spirit lights are called to bring light to the world and where does the world begin except here in Monkstown and Carrigaline! The full list of the Select Vestry is on one of the inside pages. We have printed additional copies of last year’s accounts, so please just ask me or the church wardens for one.

A short time before the separation of the parishes of Carrigaline and Douglas in 1875, ‘The Severance was effected by the Diocesan Council on Tuesday, the 9th day of February 1875 & the Representative Body ratified their decision’, a most useful ‘List of Townlands in the Parishes of Carrigaline and Douglas, as approved by the Boundaries Committee, 8th Decr. 1874’, was drawn up. This list which was evidently compiled by one O.C.Edwards, being signed by him, and dated 17th September, 1874, is presently preserved loosely within the minute book of the Select Vestry of Carrigaline, and of its content a transcription is herewith given beneath:
