Parish Notices Sunday 25th November 2012

The Rector writes- ‘The annual cycle of the Church’s year ends today with the feast of Christ the King. The year that began with the hope of the coming Messiah last Advent now ends with the proclamation of his universal sovereignty and next week we begin all over again! I read a lovely saying of C.S. Lewis during the week – ‘The pages of the Gospel rustle with a secret hope’  and it is this hope that is articulated beautifully in the liturgies of Advent as we await with hopeful                        expectation the coming of our Lord. Today is sometimes referred to as ‘Stir up Sunday’ as the appointed collect ‘Stir up we beseech thee, O Lord the wills of thy faithful people.’ has traditionally been a reminder to people to make their Christmas Puddings! –  while this is both useful and timely the actual purpose is to remind us to stir up and bring forth ‘the fruits of good works’  in order to follow in the footsteps of our King, for Christ’s Kingship is not based on human power and authority but on loving and serving others.’
