Parish Notices Sunday 4 November 2012

The Rector writes- ‘I am delighted that the Revd Tony Murphy, ordained as priest in September, has been assigned by the Bishop to work alongside myself as Rector and Richard Dring as Lay Reader in the Carrigaline Union. I hope his ministry among us will be fruitful.  Last December when I arrived among you, the ‘Posada’ tradition was in full swing. I believe this has been happening for a good many years in the parish. For those of you new to this idea, what happens is that the Crib Figures of Mary, Joseph and the Donkey travel from house to house in the Parish until they eventually arrive in St Mary’s Church just in time for the Carols around the Crib Service on 24th December.  The idea behind the Posada tradition is that people get to know the next family on the list because they have hand delivered the Holy Family to them. The Archers brought the figures to me last year on 23rd December and I found the experience both holy and moving. I am in the process of putting together the names of families who would like to welcome the figures overnight in their homes and while I have last years list of names to work with,  I wonder if there are any other families reading this who would like to be involved  this year? Mary, Joseph and the Donkey begin their Journey on the first day of Advent which is Sunday 2nd December so I will need to have our list of families organised very soon so get in touch with me as soon as possible please’
