Pew Sheet – 8th February 2026
The Rector writes ‘Today is the 2nd Sunday before Lent, it is also the day we are celebrating Fair Trade (being the 2nd Sunday in ‘Fair’buary! )
But it has also has been designated by the Churches in Britain and Ireland as ‘Racial Justice Sunday’ ….so it’s been a bit confusing in all. But when you think about it, in a way,
Fair trade and Racial Justice both fit together beautifully …. Fairness for all.
As the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd John McDowell says at the beginning of a special liturgy for Racial Justice Sunday ‘In a world which is marked by chronic national, economic, cultural, class and racial divisions, the love of God is expressed through justice. The cry for justice and lament at its absence have been a central theme of the prophets from Amos in Eighth century BCE Israel down to Dr Martin Luther King’
So while our scripture readings are for 2nd Sunday of Lent, we will try to acknowledge both Fair Trade AND Racial Justice in our liturgy today.’

The following tales are from the book ’Overheard in Dublin again’
On the no. 27 bus one morning, the driver was laughing so much at something that he had heard on the bus radio that he couldn’t take my fare. When he finally calmed down, he explained, “There’s a horse after getting on the bus in Darndale and they can’t get him off!”
Standing in a group waiting for a bus in Rathmines, a man walked by and recognized one of them, “Ah, there you are again, Charlie, I saw you the other day in O’Connell St, but by the time I caught up with you, you were gone.”
In a nightclub several years ago, a man kept asking my friend to dance and she kept saying “no”. After an hour of him pestering her, we left the club. As we were going, he turned and shouted “I didn’t catch your name” to which my friend replied “I didn’t throw it at you!”
I was sitting on a bench in Malahide, nearby sat a couple with their little girl. The mother gave the child an orange. While eating it, some juice squirted into her face, causing her to wail loudly, “Mam, the orange spat at me!”
