Parish Notices 7th October 2012

The Rector writes- ‘Last week we had a lively Blessing of the Animals Service in St Mary’s in the morning, followed by a very moving reflective Healing Service in St John’s in the evening. Today we have the United Harvest Services… this morning in St Mary’s we will celebrate Harvest in the context of the Eucharist and we thank Sam Harper for coming to speak to us. At 7pm this evening in St John’s we continue to celebrate Harvest in the context of Evensong where our Monkstown Ecumenical Choral group, under the baton of Roger Ellis, have been hard at their rehearsing for this service. We are delighted to welcome the Revd Rupert Moreton, Dean’s Vicar in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral to speak to us at this service.  When Cranmer was redesigning the rhythm of worship back in the Reformation period in the 16th Century, he envisaged that people would attend THREE services each Sunday : Matins (Morning Prayer), Eucharist and Evensong (Evening Prayer). In 2012 this is no longer the pattern for most of us (except from Cathedral Clergy like Rupert I suppose!) but today I hope that many of you will attend both of our United Harvest Services – each of the services will be different, both in format and preaching, and I hope that together they remind us of God’s love and abundance.’

HARVEST SERVICES- Our Harvest Collections in both churches will be sent to help the Syrian people who are in dire distress at this time. It is most likely that we will be routing our money through UNICEF who are working on the ground in Syria.

New READING ROTAS for both churches, and tea and coffee rota for St Mary’s available at the back of the church and in your email inbox!

hope to be confirmed on Sunday 14th October, 2012 in St Mary’s Church.

As a lighted candle is passed to each of the confirmation candidates representing the light of Christ, We remember the important role many people have had in the spiritual formation in their lives so far, and we thank all of them for their energy and commitment.

Let us pray for each of these candidates, that they might hold the light of Christ in their hearts and display his light in their lives.

We say together…..

We send you out in the power of the Spirit

We send you out in love – our love and the love of Christ

We send you out in faith with a God who is faithful for ever

Go and continue to be part of the transforming of the world.

Carry the light of Christ into all the corners of the earth

Go in the peace of Christ.  Amen.
