Random Notes No. CVIII
As a continuation from Random Notes no. CVI, of Sunday, 27th July, 2014, herewith is a transcription, from the Carrigaline Parish Vestry minute book, of the greater part of the record of the meeting of the Easter General Vestry of 1893, at which gathering the estimate for the ‘improvements’ carried out to carried out to the interior of the Church was agreed.
‘Easter 1893.- Monday, 3rd April
The General Meeting of the Vestry was held in Carrigaline Church, at 11 o’clock. Rev. Edward Gibbings presided, and opened the Meeting with Prayer. Before the regular business began the List of Vestrymen, revised and corrected, was signed by the Chairman. The Minutes of last Meeting were then read & signed.
There were present. Captn. Conner. R. H. Hayes, Wm. Smyth, M. H. J. Roberts and D. H. Young.
The following were elected Parochial officers
Rector’s Churchwarden – Captn. Conner
People’s Churchwarden – D. H. Young
Select Vestry, Thomas J. Busteed, John Crowley, R. H. Hayes,
Thomas Bolster, William Smyth, M. H. J. Roberts, Henry Smyth,
Captn. Newenham, Captn. Cooper, George Hungerford, A. S. Wilson, Richd. Buckley
Hon Sec. & Treasurer, – D. H. Young
Asst. Treasurer (Sustentation), – Miss O’Grady
The Parochial & School accounts were examined and considered very satisfactory.
The estimates received by Mr. W. H. Hill, Architect, were then brought before the Vestry. These estimates were furnished for the alterations in the Church as proposed at the meeting of the Select Vestry on 26th September, 1892. Having carefully considered the various tenders, it was proposed by Mr. R. H. Hayes, seconded by Mr. M. H. J. Roberts & passed unanimously.
“That the estimate of Messrs. Deaves, Bros, be accepted at £142.0.0, on condition the whitening of the ceiling of Church be included and a stenciling border be painted around Dado of Church.”
A unanimous vote was passed against the use of a pictorial Cross in any apparent connection whatever with the Communion Table. ……………..’ KLR
