Parish Notices Sunday 10th May 2015
The Rector writes ‘ We welcome Olive Jennings to St John’s and Andrew Coleman to St Mary’s to speak to us about the work of Christian Aid as part of their special Christian Aid week which begins today. John Sweeney is our Christian Aid Representative in this parish and you can speak to him at any time about the organisation. This evening in St John’s we will have a very special Choral Evensong when we commemorate 100 years since the RMS Lusitania was sunk just 11 miles off our coast near the Old Head of Kinsale. In song and prayer, we will remember those who perished that day in 1915 and all who have died in this way off our coastline. The Lusitania
disaster in particular reaches out across the years because many of us have known people who had actually witnessed the bodies being brought back into Cobh in May 1915 and this of course makes it all the more poignant. We will also have a special prayer of commissioning for our incoming Select Vestry. I hope to see you there.‘
DAWN CHORUS We will meet at 4.30am in the Carpark of Currabinny Woods, dress warmly and bring a torch, raingear and some breakfast for afterwards. Tony Nagle will lead us around the woods listening to the birdsong as dawn breaks. We will have an Ecumenical Prayer and then eat our breakfast. See you there!
