Parish Notices Sunday 13th October 2013
The Rector writes ‘Today is our Harvest Thanksgiving and we give thanks for all that is fruitful and good in our lives and in our world. As we look inwards in our thanks, we also look outwards and remember those who are less fortunate than us.
Our basket collections today will go to Bishops’ Appeal Syria Fund to help alleviate the awful situation the people of Syria face in their daily struggle against violence and oppression.
All of the fruits, vegetables and dry goods decorating our churches today will be distributed to local charities in both Monkstown and Carrigaline who will in turn use these foods to feed others. This is what we as a Christian community are all about : we give thanks for all we have and we share what we have with others. This is what Jesus showed us to do and we are glad to follow in his footsteps. This Harvest , we have published a newsletter called ‘Harvest Herald’ which will tell you all you need to know about what is happening in our community, with contact numbers etc. please pick up a copy as you leave’

Marriage Course in Templebreedy Parish -A strong, loving and lifelong relationship doesn’t happen by chance—and we can all learn how to make even the happiest relationship better. The Marriage Course. suits couples who have been married a little while or many years—or who are living together, or preparing to get married. The seven session course is set in a lovely atmosphere, with dinner at candlelit tables for two while you listen to practical talks that are informative and fun played on DVD. Random Notes LXVII
I recently came upon a book of recipes printed by the Southern Star, Skibbereen in the 1960’s. The contributors are all Church of Ireland names which would indicate that the book was sold for some good cause championed by members of the Dioceses. Two interesting contributions are:-
Fudge – M Bird – Monkstown.
1 lb sugar
¼ lb butter or nmargarine
1 tin sweetened condensed milk
1 teacup of water
Heat sugar, water and butter in a pan. Add condensed milk. Boil until 235-240 F. Keep stirred. Pour into buttered flat dish. Stir in dish until it looks grainy. Then cut in squares and leave to cool.
Savoury Supper Dish – Irene Ludgate, Barryscourt, Carrigtwohill
1 tin salmon
1 onion
1/s lb tomatoes
Cold mashed potato
½ oz butter
Salt and pepper.
Chop onion finely, mix with salmon and potato, salt and pepper. Place all in a fireproof dish, cover with sliced tomatoes; season with salt and pepper. Bake in a moderate oven for ½ hour. Serve hot.
