Parish Notices Sunday 14th June 2015
The Rector writes ‘ Many of you have already seen my new stole, the tapestry illustrates a scene described in the book of Revelations chapter 4 which was the old reading for Trinity Sunday. The wonderful depictions of the Lion, of the Creature with the face of a man (monkey!), the Calf and the flying Eagle mentioned in this reading were again designed and sewn by Helen Morgan. I think this is now 11 or perhaps 12 stoles that Helen has made me, each one of them unique. This particular stole is for wearing during the ‘ordinary’ time of Trinity (today being the 2nd Sunday after Trinity Sunday) Ordinary Time stretches all the way to Advent Sunday on 29th November so you will all get to know these figures on the stole very well indeed. I am very grateful to Helen for creating these wonderful stoles and enriching our Parish liturgical life in this way and I know I am the envy of many of my clerical colleagues who absolutely love them.’

Random Notes CXLII
Illustrated above is a most interesting printed order, issued by the ‘Rolls Chamber, Four Courts, Dublin’, on the 14th day of November, 1877, from the Right Hon. Edward Sullivan (1822-1885), Master of the Rolls in Ireland, 1870-1883; cr. a Baronet of Garryduff, county Cork, 1881, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, 1883-1885, a noted collector of books; a classical scholar, and a linguist, to the Revd. William Charles Walker (c.1809-1897), Rector of Carrigaline, 1875-1880, permitting the Parochial Records of the Parish ‘to remain in the care of the Incumbent of the said Parish, and his successors in the said Incumbency.
On the reverse of the Order is a schedule of the records referred to, viz:
Register of Baptisms, Marriages & Vestry Book, 1723-1756
Register of Baptisms, Marriages & Burials, 1808-1859
Register of Baptisms, Commencing 1859
Register of Burials, Commencing 1859
Readers & Preachers Book 1841-1847
Readers & Preachers Book 1847-1859
Readers & Preachers Book, Commencing 1860
On 28th June, 1922 the Four Courts, and all that it contained, including the Public Record Office were tragically destroyed in a huge explosion, followed by a devastating fire. Thanks to the above order, the Carrigaline records were, rather than being transferred to the Public Record office, allowed to be held at Carrigaline, where the majority of them remain to this day.
