Parish Notices Sunday 23rd February 2014
The Rector writes- ‘Today’s Famine Lunch is not for Parish Funds but will go to the Mothers’ Union Overseas Fund of which Hilary Dring spoke on this page last week. But it does give me an opportunity to speak to you about our income and expenditure. As a parish community we find that we always have to fundraise to make ends meet. The money we raise in this way augments the money we receive directly from you whether from the Collection Plate, Weekly or Monthly Envelopes, Regular Standing Orders or Direct Debits and this extra money from fundraising activities enables us to meet our financial commitments to the diocese and to maintain our buildings – essential work as while buildings don’t change lives, what goes on inside them does! Our ambition in the Carrigaline Union is that we will continue to be a place of welcome and friendliness, of prayer and caring and to do this we need to maintain our premises to enable our ministry and mission. We are very grateful to people like Adrian Bateman and his Fundraising team for organising events like the Table Quiz on Friday night and to Eddie Pierce and his team who organise the very successful and vital Parish Fete each year not to mention other one-off events like our Flower Festival. But its not all about Diocesan commitments and Buildings maintenance – the Select Vestry, on your behalf – has also made a commitment that 5% of all the money we receive each year goes to Charities; local, national and international. As a Christian community , our income should never be wholly taken up with our own domestic needs but should also have an outlet to give to others.’
Mother’s Union Famine Lunch will following the 11am Service in St Mary’s. Soup and rolls will be provided in the Parish Hall.
