Parish Notices Sunday 26th January 2014

The Rector writes ‘ We congratulate one of our Parishioners , the Revd Daniel Nuzum, who has been made a Canon of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral.  Canons are non-residential members of the Cathedral Chapter (which is the ruling body of the Cathedral) and are appointed by the Bishop as a mark of their contribution in ministry to the work of the Diocese. The role is an honorary one and Daniel will be continuing in his roles as Healthcare Chaplain,  as Rural Dean, and as Diocesan Ecumenical Officer.    The Installation in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral will take place during Evensong at 7 p.m. this evening and he has asked me to tell you that you are all invited to join him there.  Daniel has also stepped down from his interim role as a  member of the Safe Guarding Trust Panel for this parish. He had kindly agreed to remain on this Panel while I organised the selection and training of another male parishioner. The new Panel consists of myself, Rosemary Powell and John Sweeney and you may notice the newly updated Posters around the churches and halls. We thank Daniel for his time on the Panel and we welcome John to the Panel. Thanks also to Rosemary for her continuing work in this essential area.’

Random  Notes No. LXXX1I

Readers of Random Notes may be interested in the photograph reproduced above, which was taken in May of 1982 from a small aeroplane piloted by Daphne Pochin Mould.

Much has changed in the intervening thirty-two years, most notable being the construction of the housing estate to the east of the Church, the building of the present Rectory, the demolition of the old sexton’s house and stables, and its replacement by the present parish office and hall, the building of the housing estate to the north of the Church, and the infilling of ‘The Pound’ with a number of dwellings. The observant will no doubt notice many more minor changes!
