Parish Notices Sunday 28th October 2012
The Rector writes- ‘I have mentioned that Kate Cargin will be coming to speak to us at our services on 17th February 2013 telling us of her experiences as an Ecumenical Accompanier in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI). She will be there until early February and you can keep up with her experiences and impressions at www.kateinpalestine.wordpress.com. I have included some of her thoughts here for those of you who don’t have access to computers. Please ask me if you would like to read more as I have printouts of her postings or come along to the Monday Club (3pm – 5pm) and we will have computers there for you to access (I will help!). Anyway, Kate in her own words speaking about the village of Yanoun which is 15km south west of Nablus in the northern part of the West Bank. “The mayor, Rashed Murrar recently reported to UNICEF that the EAPPI presence was better than guns. As a Quaker, this is music to my ears. However, he also said it doesn’t stop the violence simply makes it less frequent and less severe. The EAPPI presence has created some breathing space for the villagers of Yanoun and the level of settler of violence has reduced in recent years. Despite this, 18 families have never returned to their homes, finding the prospect of living with threats hanging over them too difficult.”’
