Parish Notices Sunday 3rd September 2017

The Rector writes We will have our Parish Barbecue in the Rectory next Friday night. As in previous years, this will be  an ‘Adults only’ event, the only one we have during the year and I hope all those with children understand the reasoning behind having just one event each year for the Grown ups? (…allowing us to stay out late, have some wine and we don’t have to worry about children falling into the open fire!)

Hopefully those of you with children can manage to get babysitters for this one night.  Even though the event is held in the Rectory garden, the Select Vestry are the official ‘Hosts’ and would be delighted to see many of you there.

The children are now back in school and this will be the last hurrah of our Summer before we settle into Harvest time, Advent and (dare I say it!) Christmas! So I’m really looking forward to seeing you many of you there.’

The Select Vestry invite you all to join them in the Rectory Garden for a Barbecue at 7:30pm on Friday 8th September.  As we have to  have numbers ahead of time, please let Christine in the Parish Office know if you are coming and if you are able to bring a Salad or a Dessert……

Random Notes No. CCXLIV

As a continuance from Random Notes of August 6th last, herewith follows some further interesting extracts relating to the parish of Carrigaline, as taken from the pages of the ‘United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross Diocesan Magazine’.

1967, February,

‘Congratulations to Mr. H. Geary on winning for the fifth time, the Cup for the Supreme Champion at the Carrigaline Fat Stock Show..’

1967, May,

‘We congratulate Mr. George Stoney on his marriage to Miss Bridget Pritchard. We wish them every happiness, and warmly welcome Mrs Stoney to Carrigaline.’

1969, April,

‘To Mr. Whitley and his family we also extend sympathy on the death of his mother. Mrs Whitley had reached the fine age of 87 years. She had a large and united family, and her four sons and four daughters were amongst the very large attendance who saw her laid to rest.’

‘Mr. Walton Hosford has presented a marble tablet in Carrigaline Church in memory of his parents, Richard and June Hosford.’

1969, May,

‘Mrs. W.P.W. Newenham has presented Carrigaline Church with a very nice Oak Cross, in memory of her parents, Major and Mrs Pescott. We are most grateful.’

1969, July,

‘Barney Deane, Gillian Hackett, and Pamela Stoney were confirmed in St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral on 8th June; may God’s blessing be always with them.’

‘To Mrs. Gay, to his family and many friends, we extend sincere sympathy on the death of Mr. Richard Gay. A kindly and friendly man, he will be missed by many.’

1970, February,

‘Once again we congratulate Mr Harry Geary on winning the Supreme Championship at Carrigaline annul fatstock show- we think for the seventh time.’

1970, April,

‘We congratulate Claire Chambers on completing her training as a nurse, and wish her every joy and happiness as she announces her engagement to Cecil Poole. Congratulations! Cecil.’

1970, May,

‘We extend our sympathy to Mr. W.C.R. Coe, and the many others involved, on the disastrous fire which occurred at Carrigaline Pottery on the Saturday before Easter. This was a cruel blow for a firm which has achieved great success of recent years, and provided much employment in the area. However, we are confident that all obstacles will be surmounted, and that the pottery will be back again in full production.’
