Parish Notices Sunday 5th March 2017
The Rector writes ‘As you know, we are a Fairtrade Parish committed to using Fairtrade tea and coffee after Services and for Parish related meetings. We also try to use other Fairtrade products such as sugar, biscuits and fruit whenever we can and we promote Fairtrade during this Fairtrade Fortnight and indeed during the year whenever possible. The simple fact we need to get across to as many people as possible this Fairtrade Fortnight is that so many of the farmers and workers growing our food aren’t being paid fairly. Thousands of farmers in countries such as Malawi, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire all contribute to the tea, coffee and cocoa we enjoy here in Ireland. And yet many of those farmers are still living in poverty. If we think about the true human cost of exploitation, would we still make the same choices? We can change the way people think about trade and the products on our shelves – the Fairtrade movement is made up of ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities for Fairtrade. Your actions help other shoppers to make choices that change the lives of farmers and workers.
Remember back when only ‘Odd’ people spoke about Fairtrade?
Now it is mainstream and really making a difference to peoples lives so keep up the good work!

Random Notes CCXXV
Following on from the Notes of 5th February 2017 regarding St John’s Youth Club. …..
On Friday 16th March 1946 I called a committee meeting in Mr Garde’s house. Full committee present.
A note written to Miss R. Ranelow informing her that she was clashing a date with our pending Royal Navy fixture, brought a threatening letter by return which although addressed to me personally I felt I should put before committee and said I wouldn’t accept that letter.
Mr C. Garde said he had ok’d the date with Miss R. Ranelow!
As the Royal Navy hadn’t replied I was to write another letter stating if it wouldn’t inconvenience them would they play on the Friday instead otherwise we would play then on the Thursday and to pay it as an American tournament with 8 of our ladies.
Mr C. Garde to inform Miss R. Ranelow of this arrangement.
In our last meeting of the season a debate was decided: 11th April 1946.
“Science is more often used for evil purposes than good purposes.”
1st speaker for motion.. T. Mc Mahon
2nd Speaker for motion..Jim Roche
1st Speaker against.. C. Garde
2nd Speaker against.. Rob.
