Pew Sheet – 3rd August 2025
The Rector writes ‘Thank you to the group of eight people who have agreed to represent the parish in the September Diocesan Roadshow ‘Charting a Future with Confidence’. The group are Oriel Hosford, John Andrew, Pamela Newenham, Andrew Gleasure, Hilary Dring, Rowland Njoku, Cecil Poole and Hilary Warren-Perry which I believe represent a real cross section of ages and genders in our parish, We wish them well on the night. Today at the 11am service, I am greatly honoured to be baptising Anna Jane who is of course our Granddaughter. Welcome to all the Whelan and Murray families and I do hope I can hold it together in a professional way! After today I am on holidays until 25th August so ’Happy Out’ as they say in Cork!
The Revd Richard Dring will be available should you have any pastoral issues and his number is above.’
I will see you all for the Barbecue on 31st August.’

Pamela Newenham will be running a Tombola at this year’s parish BBQ, and would be very grateful for donations of prizes such as wine, chocolates, sweets, body creams, candles and other gifts. If you have any suitable items to contribute, please contact Pamela on 0863961770.

Who made the world?
Who made the swan,
and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean —
the one who has flung herself
out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar
out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth
instead of up and down —
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and
thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
+ Mary Oliver
